“a peak of the unknown”

In May of 2023, I entered a fun writing competition on a website called ‘Vocal’.

The prompt: write a story that takes place entirely in flight.

It was a time when I had doubts about if I really had the talent or skill to write stories. So I took a chance. And it turned out to be the exercise I needed to get back into writing. Being able to conjure a story in under 5,000 words was truly a fun experience.

There were heaps of creative submissions, far better than mine. But being able to grab one of the Runner-Up titles was truly a waking moment. The doubts were gone. And I had never been so sure of myself until that day.

And so I want to share with you this short story that I wrote nearly two years ago in hopes that I can inspire and remind my fellow writers that you are talented enough to create your own stories.
